A new door opens for the Apple Vision Pro

In an announcement awaited by video and virtual reality professionals, Blackmagic Design has unveiled its brand new immersive camera, the Blackmagic URSA Cine. This camera, specially designed for Apple’s Vision Pro, promises to revolutionize the creation of spatial content. Even if this camera was designed for Vision Pro content, it could also be used to bring immersive content to other mixed reality headsets.

The Blackmagic URSA Cine is distinguished by its custom-made 3D stereoscopic lens system, which allows stereoscopic images to be captured with exceptional precision. It is equipped with two 8K sensors, ensuring unparalleled image quality. The 180-degree field of view it offers is similar to Apple Immersive Video content available on the Apple TV app under visionOS, ensuring a fully immersive experience.

High quality audio and video

URSA Cine is not only a feat in video, it also excels in audio with support for spatial audio. This feature helps capture immersive audio, which adds an extra dimension to the viewing experience. In terms of resolution, the camera captures impressive images of 8160 x 7200 pixels per eye and can record video at a rate of 90 frames per second, ensuring unparalleled smoothness and clarity.

Design and connectivity

Made with a magnesium alloy chassis and a polycarbonate and carbon fiber composite shell, the Blackmagic URSA Cine is both robust and lightweight. It includes two 5-inch HDR touchscreens and an external color LCD display, allowing for optimal control and viewing. In terms of connectivity, the camera is equipped with:

  • a 10G Ethernet port

Storage and recording formats

With an integrated 8TB Blackmagic Media Module, the Blackmagic URSA Cine offers plenty of storage space for high-resolution recordings. Additionally, with Cloud Store support, it enables fast media downloading and syncing via the 10G Ethernet port.

To accompany this new camera, Blackmagic Design has updated its DaVinci Resolve video editing software, optimized to better support content creation for the Vision Pro. This update allows users to make the most of the camera’s capabilities, making it easier to produce high-quality, immersive content.

Price and availability

Although the Blackmagic URSA Cine promises to transform the way spatial content is created and experienced, pricing has not yet been announced.

Based on the prices of current high-end professional cameras and mixed reality equipment, it is reasonable to estimate that the Blackmagic URSA Cine could fall into a price range of $15,000 to $30,000 or more. .
