A few days before Christmas, the film Carry-On is a huge success on Netflix. This thriller by Jaume Collet-Serra ranks at the top of the most viewed films in France and in many other countries according to data from the specialized site FlixPatrol. The opportunity for us to tell you everything you need to know about this very effective feature film co-produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners.
What is it about?
If we rely on the official synopsis offered by Netflix:
Carry-On follows young Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent Ethan as he fights to resist a mysterious traveler who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip onto a Christmas Eve flight.
After viewing, we can indeed confirm that the tension and suspense remain very present for 2 hours. We also appreciate this contrast between this sweet Christmas atmosphere present in the film and the explosive climate.
A solid cast
This film is largely based on the duo of Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Tetris) and Jason Bateman (Ozark). Alongside them, a bunch of actors who also do a good job: Sofia Carson (Our bruised hearts), Danielle Deadwyler (Parralel), or even Theo Rossi (The Penguin), and Dean Norris (breaking Bad).
Jaume Collet-Serra has already discussed this alchemy between the two men:
We all wanted the film to feel incredibly realistic, as if the events of this film could happen to any of us on any day in any airport, and Jason and Taron delivered brilliant performances that helped ground our film and make it real. I think they also really enjoyed the cat and mouse game between their two characters and really had a good time building up their exchanges from those moments.
What do the critics say?
Not to mention a masterpiece, Carry-On still got a score of 68 out of 100 on Metacritic, which is still pretty solid. Our colleagues from Geek Journal have, for example, highlighted:
Carry-On does not revolutionize anything, but since this is not what was expected of him, we can say that he succeeds in his mission. Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman do a good job, director Jaume Collet-Serra too and we have a rather pleasant time watching a thriller which takes advantage of the holidays to make its mark. A work in the average Netflix productions intended to expand a catalog, nevertheless, in the high average.
