Microsoft’s efforts to improve its flagship project, the Windows operating system, continue unabated. Even as official support for Windows 10 approaches its end, the company continues to release updates with various changes for this version of the software.
For example, this is the case of the new patch KB5055518, which is now available for all users of the aforementioned Windows 10. Occasionally, we’ve encountered various updates for previous versions of the system that include some features that hardly anyone likes, and which are included in Windows 11. And this is a clear example of that.
We mention all this because this arrival brings with it a change that’s already included in the latest version of the system, but one that many consider important. Specifically, we’re referring to the disappearance of the clock with a second hand in the Calendar of the operating system itself. It’s important to note that the update is being rolled out through Windows Update, as is usually the case in these cases.
KB5055518 is a security update that also addresses some recently reported printing issues. This is a bug that caused printers to not work when used in dual mode and connected via a USB port. Although official support for this version of Windows ends in just a few months, it appears Microsoft is testing the removal of the clock with seconds from the Calendar, which many won’t like.
And now you’ll see that it’s no longer possible to see the clock with seconds in the Calendar drop-down menu. We must keep in mind that most users still have the old calendar and use it daily here.
The second hand disappears from the Windows 10 calendar.
Windows 10 is initially supposed not to display seconds on the taskbar unless we make some changes to the Registry. But until now, we could see the seconds on the clock if we opened the Calendar drop-down menu located on the right side of the taskbar.
This clock used to be large and clearly displayed at the top of the Calendar drop-down window. Now, it’s been completely removed, and we have to settle for the smaller one we’re so used to seeing on the taskbar. But there are still many users who like to see the clock with the seconds for various reasons, even if it’s just out of habit.
In addition to everything mentioned above, we must add another problem related to the Calendar: the date is now divided into different sections in this section. This makes it difficult to view at a glance, which, by the way, doesn’t make much sense. It’s true that the font size is now larger, but it’s still more difficult to see the date clearly. In the previous design, we saw the date and time on a single line, which was better. At the same time, we find unnecessary white space and reduced information in the aforementioned new drop-down menu.
Therefore, if you want to avoid this change, we recommend that you do not install the KB5055518 patch. If it has already arrived on your device, you can always remove it from the Settings app, specifically from the update history.
