From December 5 to 17, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, will make a series of announcements every day. And to start hostilities, it is launching a subscription called ChatGPT Pro, which provides access to more advantages than the ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Team subscriptions. On the other hand, the new subscription is ten times more expensive. Indeed, if ChatGPT Plus costs $20 excluding taxes per month, ChatGPT Pro costs $200 excluding taxes.
What are the advantages of ChatGPT Pro?
The ChatGPT Pro subscription includes all the benefits of ChatGPT Plus, plus a unlimited access to o1, o1-mini, GPT-4o and OpenAI advanced voice mode. But that’s not all, since the ChatGPT Pro subscription also gives access to “o1 pro”. As a reminder, o1 and o1-mini are AI models designed to take longer to think before answering the user’s questions. “These models can reason through complex tasks and solve more difficult problems than previous models in science, coding and mathematics”OpenAI explained in September. As for o1 pro, which is available on the ChatGPT Pro subscription, this is a version of o1 which “which uses more computation to think more intensely and provide even better answers to the most difficult problems.”
OpenAI notably mentions performance improvements in mathematics, science and coding, when ChatGPT uses the o1 pro model. On the other hand, as response times can be long, OpenAI offers a progress bar, as well as a notification that will alert the user when the results are available. OpenAI also indicates that it will add other features to this new subscription.
A product designed for a specific category of users
OpenAI did not design this new subscription for the average userbut rather for people (like engineers or scientists) who need “research-grade” artificial intelligence to be more productive. We can therefore assume that people satisfied with the ChatGPT Plus subscription will stay on this subscription, while people targeted by ChatGPT Pro will be able to find an advantage, despite the very high price.
Otherwise, the other announcement of the day is that, from now on, the o1 and o1-mini models are no longer in preview and that they are available with limited access for ChatGPT Plus users.
