Google already offers Gemini, an AI comparable to ChatGPT, which is also capable of carrying out tasks on Google services, such as Google Maps, Gmail or Google Drive, and of controlling connected devices in the home, thanks to integration with the Google Home app. But in addition to that, rumors mention the development of another product nicknamed “Jarvis” which would be able to carry out actions on the web in place of the user, such as searching for information, ordering online, reserving a theft, etc.
Google has not yet confirmed the existence of this project, but recently, according to a publication on the site The Information, the firm accidentally leaked information about it. Specifically, Google allegedly accidentally released a prototype of Project Jarvis to the Chrome Web Store. On the store page, Google would have mentioned a “useful companion that surfs the web for you”. In other words, Jarvis would be a kind of robot that can take control of the user’s computer, in order to carry out tasks on the web for them. Unfortunately, it would have been impossible to use this prototype that appeared on the Chrome Web Store without authorization from Google.
AI agents instead of a simple chatbot?
Although caution is still required, this alleged leak gives us a glimpse of Google’s ambitions in the AI space. In essence, instead of offering a chatbot that can help us with its knowledge, the firm would like to offer an even more useful product, capable of carrying out actions for us.
In any case, Google is not the only company working on this type of project. In October, the artificial intelligence laboratory Anthropic announced a technology called “computer use”, tested in beta, which allows artificial intelligence to use computers as humans would (analyze the screen, move the cursor, click and enter text). “Claude 3.5 Sonnet is the first cutting-edge AI model to be available for computing use in public beta. At this stage it is still experimental, sometimes cumbersome and error-prone,” Anthropic said.

- The idea would be that we could entrust AI with certain tasks that we would normally have to carry out manually on the web
