After its break with Canal+, Disney+ signs a strategic agreement with Orange for the distribution of its content in France. This major change in the French audiovisual landscape comes a few days before the end of the historic partnership between Disney and Canal+. Here are the details of this new alliance which benefits the subscribers of the historic operator.
A new multifaceted partnership
Orange becomes Disney’s new preferred distributor in France with an offer structured around three main axes. From January 2, 2025, Orange TV subscribers will have access to Disney Channel and National Geographic channels at no additional cost via their TV decoder and the mobile application. Notable point: Disney Channel, which was initially supposed to stop broadcasting in France, finally seems to be maintained, although details are still awaited on this point.
For streaming enthusiasts, Disney+ remains accessible with specific advantages for Orange customers. Livebox Max subscribers will benefit from a permanent €5 reduction on their Disney+ subscription, while other customers will be able to benefit from a one-month free trial. An offer which, if it does not completely compete with the old Canal+ package, remains attractive for fans of the Disney universe. In short, this is not an exclusive distribution agreement but a simple privileged partnership between the two companies.
A broadcast window preserved for films
One of the most interesting points of this agreement concerns the distribution of films. Orange will offer the latest Disney productions (including Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Studios) via its VOD service only 4 months after their theatrical release. Excellent news for movie fans, even if this content will only be available for purchase or rental, and not included in a subscription.
Hélène Etzi, President of The Walt Disney Company France, declared:
We are very happy to partner with Orange, to make our iconic content and stories accessible to as many French households as possible. Thanks to these strategic agreements, subscribers will be able to enjoy our content through 3 simple and complementary access modes: Disney+, our flagship channels Disney Channel and National Geographic and the VOD service.
For users who are not at Orange, the Disney+ application of course remains available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, offering an optimized experience on the Apple ecosystem. Subscribers will be able to continue enjoying their favorite content on all their devices, with the ability to download content for offline viewing.
