Right now, and for several years now, Mozilla Firefox is one of the leading exponents in the web browser software sector. Hence, the constant updates its developers send to its millions of users.
Mozilla is fully aware that more and more people are abandoning Microsoft’s Windows operating system and installing one of the many Linux distributions on their computers. In fact, many of these open-source operating systems include the Firefox browser pre-installed by default.
It’s true that after Mozilla’s recent modification to its usage policies, some Linux developers are changing their minds on this matter. Despite this, it remains one of the most widely used and common applications in these environments. This is precisely why the developer has now focused on including several new features specifically designed for Linux systems in the new Firefox 137.
Key new features in Firefox 137
Here we’re referring to the new version, which is now available. Its main new feature is that it now supports HEVC video playback on the aforementioned Linux distros. It’s also worth noting that this new version adds support for using the address bar as a calculator or signing PDF documents without leaving the program itself. This release was released just a few hours ago, so it will be rolling out to users’ computers over the next few days.
We’re talking about the final stable build of Mozilla’s Firefox 137 web browser. It’s also available for all supported platforms, so it’s time to take a look at the new features and changes here.
As we mentioned earlier, among the highlights of the new Firefox 137 is support for HEVC playback on Linux. Also worth mentioning is the browser’s ability to identify all links in PDF files and automatically convert them into hyperlinks. And not only that, but also specifically for these office files, we now have the ability to sign PDF documents without leaving Firefox.
Mozilla also added support for using the browser’s address bar as a calculator. To take advantage of this feature, simply type a mathematical expression in the address bar and view the result in the drop-down menu that appears. Clicking on the result will copy it directly to the system clipboard. It’s worth mentioning that this feature is being rolled out gradually.
On another note, Firefox 137 also introduces two new options in the Browser Layout section. These allow users to switch between horizontal and vertical tab layouts, in addition to the Show Sidebar option introduced in Firefox 136 with the new vertical tabs feature.
How to install the latest version of Mozilla’s browser
Once we know all this, as we told you before, the new Firefox 137 will be rolling out to users over the next few hours or days. We can install the new version completely automatically by going to the Help / About Firefox menu option.
It’s also important to know that we can always download this version, which Mozilla provides through the program’s official website. This way, we can take advantage of the latest features integrated into the new version, which we’ve told you about.
