These are complicated times for the video game industry. GTA VI has been delayed, and it did so by announcing an official release date when none existed. So, Rockstar, somehow, has been able to announce the “delay of a game with no release date.” A milestone that could be worthy of a metaphysical and philosophical challenge, because the question arises: can something that has no set date for sale in stores be delayed? The Americans have squared the circle.

Well, yes, on May 1st, we were practically staring at lunch with the news that GTA VI was delayed, that it would go on sale on May 26th, 2026, but did anyone know when it would arrive in 2025? It’s true that in one of its few trailers they had dropped the year, rather bluntly, but little else. So technically, there was no definitive release date. But it didn’t matter. Rockstar behaved like Gandalf, practically saying, “A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins, nor early. He arrives exactly when he means to.”

No news on GTA VI, but release in 2026

It’s probably frustration and years of watching companies take us for fools that’s writing these lines, but Rockstar announcing a release date (the first official one, let’s not forget) right in the message where it claims it’s delayed is something we’ve never seen before for a title that’s practically a AAAA. On top of that, it does so after keeping us on bread and water since the end of 2023 and without revealing anything about the game. But when we say nothing, we mean nothing.

This GTA VI is surely the biggest launch in video games history, and the hype is overflowing because of all of us who want to play it. But Rockstar is making a complete fool of itself with how it’s handling everything around it. We, who have always told you about the exemplary release schedule they always follow, in this case, it’s starting to look like a newcomer studio that doesn’t know how to manage the communication channels at its disposal.

We’re truly in for an astonishing 2025. Nintendo is halfway through introducing a new generation in January with a short video to quell rumors, and GTA VI is utterly silent, just over (now) a year away from its release. It’s disheartening how, on top of this, Rockstar is taking us for idiots by announcing the delay in May when we all thought we were still months away from being able to play it. It’s also true that so much silence throughout 2024 and so far in 2025 didn’t bode well. And that’s despite news ( which has since turned out to be true ) appearing in September of last year (September!!) that already pointed to a delay until mid-2026.

So yes, it seems Rockstar has known for eight months that GTA VI wasn’t going to be released in 2025, not even in their wildest dreams, and they’ve let the hype run wild, knowing we’re all crazy. So yes, they’ve manipulated us, deceived us, bullied us, and ignored us as if we were kids who need to be kept in the dark about bad news. And if we opt for that explanation, it’s because the other one is even worse and leaves the game’s creators in the lurch. All so that when the time comes, we’ll be so eager that we don’t mind shelling out 100 or 120 euros to get it.

And, honestly, some of us are fed up with these guys being so obvious about their true colors, and on top of that, they don’t care about seeming like they’re only interested in their own interests.
