Presented with the iPhone 13 and present in the models that came out later, we are talking about a simple touch control that allows you to alter the color and contrast of your photos without you hardly doing anything. In fact, if you have an iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro, you have a big advantage, as Apple updated Photo Styles to give users much more control over the look of their photos.
What are photographic styles?
Photo Styles were first introduced with the iPhone 13 series and were later implemented in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series. They are Apple’s version of the photographic filtersbut with one key difference: instead of being applied during editing, styles they are seen live while you take the photo. Once taken, the effect is integrated directly into the final image.
The main draw of Photo Styles is the ability to customize the look of your iPhone’s camera, rather than accepting Apple’s default style. When I started using them on my iPhone 13, I liked the style Intense contrastwhich gave my images a high-contrast look, similar to Pixel phones. In fact, if you have a model prior to the iPhone 16, you will see that there are five styles: Standard, High Contrast, Vibrant, Warm and Cool.
With the launch of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, photography styles They received a huge update, surpassing the functionality available in previous models. Thus, 10 new ones are added until we reach 15 styles to choose from, instead of five, among which they are selected Amber, Golden, Rose Golden, Quiet, Ethereal, Vibrant and Stark Black and White. And, in addition to adjusting the hue, you can customize the image color and intensity of the preset. But the best part is that the Settings app now includes a wizard that helps you find a custom style, making it the default for all your future photos.
How to configure your photography style
To create your own style, you must do it from the settings app, and not from the camera. Follow these steps:
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Camera.
- Select Photo Styles.
- Tap the Get Started button.
- Choose four recent photos to preview the styles.
- Explore available styles and adjust tone and color with the touch panel.
- The Y axis changes the tonal range (contrast), while the X axis adjusts the saturation (color intensity).
- Use the slider to modify the filter strength.
- When you find a setting you like, tap Save Hue & Color.
This style will be your default setting for all photos taken with the Camera app.
Use these photo styles from the camera
If you prefer not to set a default style, you can temporarily activate it:
- Open the Camera app.
- Tap the touchpad icon (a dotted square) in the top right corner.
- Scroll through the styles and select the one you created.
