Trying to offer something similar to what Snapchat has inside, Instagram has launched a tool worldwide that allows you to know at all times where your followers are.
Through an interactive map, Instagram now has the ability to automatically locate any user. Although this feature seems extremely useful, it has generated enormous controversy among most users, as at first glance, it seems extremely intrusive.
If you accidentally activated it and want to prevent the social network from showing your followers your exact location, don’t despair! Like most Instagram features, you can disable your location quickly and easily.
How do I turn off my location on Instagram?
Unlike the Instagram map that was introduced on the platform some time ago, this one is in charge of constantly detecting our location. Basically, the platform will display our profile picture on an interactive map so our contacts know where we are.
In other words, you won’t need to upload a story or post to appear on the Instagram map. Fortunately, you can easily disable this feature by following these steps:
- Open the Instagram app from your mobile device.
- Once you’re logged into the social network, you’ll need to access the “Messages” section (by tapping the icon in the top right corner).
- Therefore, you will have to enter the option that says “Map” .
- Within the Instagram map, you’ll need to click on the small gear (nut) shown in the top right corner.
- A menu with several options will be displayed, you will have to choose the one that says “Invisible Mode”.
- And finally, you must press “Until you activate it again”.
This way, Instagram will no longer show your location to other users on the map. It’s worth noting that this feature is only available in the latest version of Instagram for Android and iOS, so you’ll need to update the app to access it.
