Android 16 is now available in beta, the first HyperOS 2 update Xiaomi has released with this version. If you’d also like to try out all the new features Android 16 Beta brings, here’s how to do it, but be careful, because only these two Xiaomi phones currently have the option.

The HyperOS 2 customization layer, running on Android 16 Beta 2, has been one of the most anticipated updates for Xiaomi users, especially now that it is finally available for testing in the Chinese market. This is a very interesting version, with important new features that significantly improve the user experience, and it’s finally available to everyone.

Well, not everyone exactly: although it will eventually reach many more devices, for the moment Beta 2 of Android 16 for HyperOS is only available for two mobiles, which are none other than the Xiaomi 14T Pro and the Xiaomi 15 .

What’s new in the latest version of HyperOS 2 with Android 16?

The latest version of HyperOS 2 has incorporated new features highly valued by its users, including important details such as improved battery optimization , extending the phone’s battery life. We also have better privacy controls in settings, improved transitions and animations in the interface, a major overhaul of the notification management system, as well as AI-based feature enhancements reserved for the latest models.

Another very important new feature that Android 16 will bring us, although we will probably have to wait for it to arrive under HyperOS 3 on most mobile phones, is the adoption of new video recording codecs, with more optimized performance.

As we mentioned above, the two devices that have received the option to update to this new version are the Xiaomi 15 and the Xiaomi 14T Pro.

How to install Android 16 Beta 2

If you have one of these two phones, trying out the new version will only require a little work. Before you begin, it’s important to remember that the version is still in beta, which means it may have bugs and errors here and there, although in this case, it’s a fairly polished version that shouldn’t show any critical or serious issues.

You can follow the instructions on the page Xiaomi has made available to its users to guide you through the installation process. To start, back up any important files you want to keep, as the installation will erase all data on your phone.

After that, you can download the build versions from the link provided above on mi.com. Note that the versions vary for each device:

  • The Xiaomi 15 needs the ROM OS2.0.109.0.VOCMIXM
  • The Xiaomi 14T Pro uses OS 2.0.103.0.VNNMIXM ROM

Once you’ve copied the ROM to your phone’s storage, you’ll need to access Settings, go to “About phone,” and click the “OS version” button ten times to access developer mode. Once there, you can return to “About phone,” click the system icon, open more options in the top right corner, and select “Choose update package.” After that, all you have to do is select the downloaded ROM.
