Real-Debrid is starting to make a name for itself. As a reminder, this is a service that allows you to download torrents without waiting to watch streaming content almost instantly.
These features ended up attracting the attention of hackers and this offer is becoming increasingly popular among them. Enough to irritate rights holders, and it is precisely following pressure suffered in France that Real-Debrid announced very strong measures against this illegal use of its tool.
Firm measures against piracy
In detail, the service informed its users that its decision comes after a formal notice from the National Federation of Film Editors (FNEF). Real-Debrid warns that it will block certain cyberlockers, online tools that store and share files, that are on the European Union’s hacking watch list, as well as those targeted by Uncle Sam. no names are mentioned, our colleagues from TorrentFreak believe that RapidGator, KrakenFiles, and Mega are in the hot seat.
Likewise, the service plans to deactivate its API which could be used for certain third-party applications, such as media centers like Kodi and Plex. The InstantAvailability option, which allows you to instantly stream and download cached videos, will also no longer be accessible.
Real-Debrid also promises to filter certain keywords, and announces in advance that this could induce false positives. Finally, it announces the blocking of torrents of trackers mentioned in the lawsuits filed with the Paris judicial court.
Will this be enough?
It is still too early to know the exact impact of the measures announced. In any case, users did not wait to make their dissatisfaction known online following the adoption of this anti-piracy system.
This could also damage the image of this service among users who are looking for safe ways to pirate series and films. It is also not certain that this will be enough to appease the rights holders. As our colleagues rightly point out, the latter could soon come back with new requirements to counter piracy.
