Those from Cupertino continue to pull the strings when it comes to acquisitions. It’s known in the tech world that both startups and brands are usually up for sale at some point, but when a brand is exploring whether a purchase move is possible, it’s not. In Apple’s case, it’s a giant that acquires the largest number, and most of them don’t make themselves known, unless they are emerging companies or brands that are on the radar for popularity and use. On this occasion, it was discovered that Apple has acquired a company related to an AI-assisted calendar appAre things coming with Apple Intelligence and the native app?

Apple acquires Mayday Labs Inc. for its AI-powered calendar app

As discovered by MacGeneration, thanks to a publication made by the EU regarding acquisitions made by other tech giants, it was discovered that in the last 18 months, Apple acquired Mayday Labs Inc., a calendar app that was mostly powered by AI. Best of all, it is supported on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Mayday defined itself as “the future of scheduling” through a calendar, to-do list, and assistant, a comprehensive platform that leverages AI to organize our daily lives. The acquisition took place on April 3, 2024, and the app subsequently ceased to operate on May 1 of that same year.

It is very likely that iOS 19 will renew its Calendar and put Mayday, made by Apple

The reality is that the Mayday app was very interesting before its acquisition by Apple. Perhaps it was somewhat difficult to appreciate at the time due to the vast number of solutions available today in the App Store. Also, keep in mind that many users are satisfied with Apple’s Calendar and prefer to use other third-party options.

For example, there was an auto-scheduling feature that offered the ability to “find time to meet with others” without having to know the schedule. Everything was defined according to priority, which is very important since Mayday learned from preferences and scheduling patterns, focusing on productivity in terms of events and tasks.

AI intervened in task management by simply specifying the duration and deadline; you didn’t have to worry about the best time to schedule that task. And no matter how much work piled up, Mayday automatically rescheduled to fit your dynamic schedule.

This could mean a big change for the Calendar app. It currently doesn’t have any built-in AI features powered by Apple Intelligence. A year after this acquisition, it’s possible that Mayday will take over the core of the native Calendar app. This is undoubtedly great news that will please users who already use the app, especially those who already use Mayday.
