iPhone 16s are easier to repair

An easier battery to change
With the iPhone 16, Apple introduced a new way to remove the battery in order to change it:
By passing a low voltage electrical current through the new ionic liquid battery adhesive (using a 9V cell, for example), the battery will release from the casing. This makes removal faster and safer compared to previous stretch adhesives.
The other improvement concerns the Face ID sensor, the TrueDepth camera can now be exchanged without compromising privacy and security, it is an evolution that seems trivial, but repairers have been waiting for this for a long time. The Cupertino firm also specifies that the iPhone 16 Pro have had several internal modifications to offer simplified access to several components. Thanks to this initiative by Apple, repairers will save a lot of time.
Finally, Apple specifies that Apple Stores and its repair centers are now able to repair the LiDAR scanner, customers will no longer need to systematically change the iPhone in the event of a breakdown.
These developments will please the experts at iFixit who give a repair score every year a few days after the marketing of a new iPhone. As a reminder, the iPhone 15 in September 2023 had acquired a repairability score of 4/10, a real disaster when Samsung smartphones obtain a much higher score.
