iphone 17 iconThat’s it, Apple finally seems ready to question itself about the refresh rate of its standard iPhones. For years, we have seen the Apple brand play the “everything for Pro” card by reserving the best features for the most expensive versions, including screen technology. But faced with the rise in quality of Android smartphones, the situation could change as early as 2025 and the iPhone 17.

A screen finally up to standard in 2025

Historically, screen refresh rates have been a sticking point. Entry-level Androids quickly stood out with 90 then 120 Hz screens, while the standard iPhone remained stuck at 60 Hz, well after the advent of 120 Hz at Apple with the release of the iPhone 13Pro. Suffice to say that the arrival of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus has left a bitter taste for some, especially when we see competitors offering fluid screens for a price two to three times lower.

But good news, this should change with the iPhone 17! According to the leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibothe standard 2025 model would benefit from an improved refresh rate. We’re not talking about 120 Hz yet, but a 90 Hz screen seems to be the target. The Pro and Pro Max models would remain the kings with their 120 Hz. Enough to restore a little more appeal to the basic models, already relaunched this year with the iPhone 16 which stole some features from the Pro such as the mode Macro or Action and Camera buttons.

But that’s not all because, as you know, Apple is also preparing to replace the iPhone 17 Plus with the iPhone 17 Air, a model which promises to be ultra-thin and equipped with the 5G modem made in Apple. If the rumors are confirmed, it could also boast of a 90 Hz display, which would give it an additional argument. Apple intends to make it a truly separate model, between the standard and Pro models, with its unique design as a distinctive feature.

Regardless, the increased refresh rate is bound to be great news, both for fans of video and video games, but also for those who scroll through content on social media. Once adopted, it is impossible to go back without seeing a loss of fluidity.
