The fourth-generation iPhone SE, due next year, wouldn’t be that boring. The cheapest model in the range could be the first to integrate an Apple-designed 5G modem, which would also include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, according to a report from 9to5Mac. This next iPhone SE would also be equipped with the A18 chip, the same as that of the iPhone 16, thus supporting Apple Intelligence.
A first at Apple
Apple has long been working on its own networking component, a custom 5G modem. Postponed many times, it would finally be ready to equip the new iPhone SE. This modem, called “Centauri“, would integrate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS into a single chip, eliminating the need for separate components.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman thinks Apple’s first modem won’t bring immediate improvements over Qualcomm technology, but should evolve over time. But by encompassing everything, it will save space in the phone, while reducing production costs, which is in line with the story for the “SE” model.
Several analysts have also stated that the iPhone SE 4 will be equipped with Apple Intelligence, a statement echoed by our colleagues. The next-generation iPhone SE will include an A18 chip, which is the chip used in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. It should also have 8 GB of RAM, the minimum for Apple Intelligence.
In addition to the A18 chip, the new iPhone SE would have a design similar to the iPhone 14 with a 6.1-inch OLED screen, support for Face ID, and a (single) 48-megapixel rear camera. It could also include an Action button. Without forgetting, the obligatory USB-C port.
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch in early 2025, with an estimated price of €500. As cheap as possible to allow Apple to reach an ever-widening audience, while very high-end models like the iPhone 16 Pro are seeing their sales drop, for the first time.
