During the conference OpenTech 2024 which is currently being held in Paris, Orange revealed several innovations, including a new Livebox intended exclusively for the Romanian market. This specific Livebox 7 is notably equipped with Wi-Fi 7.
Focus on Innovation at OpenTech
For three days, Orange highlighted the innovations of its teams, not only from France but also from countries such as Poland and Romania.
In a discreet space, the historic operator presented the Livebox 7 Essential, which marks a first for the French historic operator with the integration of WiFi 7. This box is specifically designed for the Romanian market.
The Livebox 7 Essential retains the characteristic vertical silhouette of the Orange boxes with the connections at the back. However, it has notable differences, particularly in terms of design. It ditches the premium fabric for a plastic shell, almost reminiscent of a 3D print, and is made primarily from recycled plastic, although not yet reaching 100%.
It offers simple but functional connectivity, including:
- Two Ethernet ports
- A USB port
- An RJ11 socket for the landline telephone
- A coaxial port for television
Simple but advanced technology
This “new” box, although equipped with minimal connectivity, is distinguished by its early adoption of WiFi 7, making it the first at Orange to offer this advanced wireless network technology which is found in particular on the iPhone 16. We were also disappointed not to have Wi-Fi 7 on the very latest M4 Macs.
Another difference is that the Livebox 7 Essential has a single board inside, potentially simplifying its construction and maintenance. In short, this is a “lite” version of our Livebox, but with a faster wireless network. Not bad !
