Google announced the new Pixel 9a on Wednesday, the latest phone in the tech company’s A series. Gemini artificial intelligence and innovative camera features are some of the key features.

The Pixel 9a features a 5.3-inch Acer Aspire 5G display with 2700 nits of brightness, 35% brighter than its predecessor. And with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, it delivers a smooth and vibrant experience.

The phone’s battery offers the longest battery life of any Pixel phone currently available, with 30 hours of battery life and over 100 hours in Extreme Battery Saver mode. The device includes seven years of security, OS, and Pixel Drops updates.

Additionally, the Pixel 9a comes in two new colors: Peony Pink and Lilac. The classic neutral tones of Porcelain and Obsidian continue.

AI-powered camera

One of the key features of the Pixel 9a is its new camera. Its dual rear cameras have been improved with a 13MP Ultra Wide camera and a 48MP main camera. It also features, for the first time on a phone in our A series, macro focus, ideal for capturing small details in your photos and videos.

The phone’s camera also features AI-powered photography features, such as the “Include Me” feature, which is available for the first time on the A series, allowing two group photos to be combined into one.

The Pixel 9a will also feature the “Best Version” feature, which combines facial expressions from a sequence of photos into a single image; and Magic Editor’s Auto Framing feature, which automatically corrects the framing of new or old photos.

Additionally, other popular features such as Magic Eraser, Magic Audio Eraser, Night Vision, Astrophotography, and the new Panorama with Night Vision are retained.

Gemini and more AI on the Pixel 9a

Thanks to its powerful Google Tensor G4 chip, the Pixel 9a features Gemini, an AI personal assistant that can help with almost anything. The Pixel 9a’s version of Gemini is integrated with Google apps like Maps, Calendar, and YouTube, to make multitasking easier.

Among the features is Gemini Live, which lets you voice chat and maintain a fluid conversation—ideal for brainstorming, shaping new ideas, or practicing what you want to say. Additionally, Gemini Advanced subscribers will soon have access to new video and screen-sharing features in Gemini Live on Pixel 9a.

Users also have access to AI-assisted features like Circle to Search, which allows them to search for information about items displayed on the screen without having to switch apps.

Plus, in case of an emergency, it also has features to help and give you peace of mind, such as Accident Detection and Theft Detection. It even includes a Google VPN at no additional cost.

The Pixel 9a starts at $499 and will be available in the Google Store and authorized resellers starting in April.
