Xiaomi is in the midst of updating its smartphones to the latest versions of HyperOS, but unfortunately, it’s not all good news. Just as the company is constantly releasing new models, there are also older phones that are left without coverage and obsolete, as is the case this time.
It’s never pleasant to hear that your phone is about to run out of updates. This basically means that it will no longer have new security measures, and therefore, the privacy and security of your data are no longer guaranteed. Furthermore, the abandonment of updates also has a strong impact as a concept, as it means that our beloved device is beginning to become obsolete .
Unfortunately, it’s an unavoidable fact, especially with today’s electronic devices, which are so dependent on network connections. Xiaomi is making a lot of noise about discontinuing models, but it’s not doing so more than other companies. Quite the contrary: it guarantees fairly long life cycles for its phones, even for low-end devices.
The problem is that very few manufacturers are able to keep up with the Asian giant’s launch pace. With the Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO lines in operation, the brand covers a huge number of new phones launched each year, and therefore also phones that are no longer in service. It’s an inevitable consequence.
Xiaomi leaves these 7 phones without further updates
The company has announced on its own website that in April, up to seven of its smartphones will no longer receive official support. They will no longer receive HyperOS, Android, or security patches, so continuing to use them from that point forward will be the responsibility of each user. Of course, this doesn’t mean they’ll steal our banking information as soon as we take them out for a walk, far from it: in most cases, the only noticeable consequence is a drop in phone performance over time. However, it’s still not pleasant to hear.
It also means that our favorite apps may no longer be compatible with our phone when they’re updated and that new releases we’re interested in may never be. This is the price to pay for a constantly evolving sector. When this happens, it’s usually a good idea to start looking at new models and monitoring prices for interesting deals on upgrading your old phone.
Without further ado, here’s the blacklist of those affected who will be left without new updates starting this April 2025. Some of the models are quite well-known, such as the Redmi Note 11S, a mobile phone that was very successful at its launch and in subsequent years, which has racked up a large number of sales.
- POCO F4 GT
- Xiaomi 11i
- Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge
- Redmi K50 Gaming Edition
- Redmi Note 11S
- Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G
- Redmi Note 10A
If your smartphone is among those affected, it might be time to take a look at the latest generations of its line to find out which models interest you most.
