Electronics manufacturer Samsung has officially announced the date of its next event, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023, which will take place on July 26. During this highly anticipated event, the company is expected to unveil its latest generation of foldable phones: the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The event will take place in the capital city of South Korea and will be available for viewing in the Samsung Newsroom, on Samsung.com, and through the company’s YouTube channel.

According to the company’s press release, the event is titled “Join the Flip Side,” and users with accounts on the Samsung website will be able to access discounts and sweepstakes that vary by country.

Although Samsung is expected to officially unveil its new foldable devices, leaks have already appeared showing us what the next Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 could be.

Galaxy Z Flip 5

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to feature design improvements, including a larger 3.4-inch external display. Leaked images reveal a dual-camera setup located above the screen, which will allow for higher-resolution selfies compared to conventional front-facing cameras.

Additionally, Samsung may enable the camera app to run on the external display, similar to what’s available on the Galaxy Fold devices. According to a report from Android Police, Google is reportedly working on optimizing certain apps like Maps, YouTube, and Messages to work optimally on the external display.

As for specifications, the report suggests the Galaxy Z Flip 5 won’t feature many significant changes. It’s expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor, while retaining the 6.7-inch flexible AMOLED display, 3,700mAh battery with 25W charging, and 12-megapixel cameras for the main, ultra-wide, and selfies.

Galaxy Z Fold 5

The leaked image reveals the most significant change to the Galaxy Z Fold5’s hinge, allowing the device to fold completely without leaving a gap in the middle, unlike previous generations. A reduction in the bezels of the smartphone’s internal panel is also observed, and support for the S-Pen is once again confirmed, although it will remain a separately sold accessory.

In terms of technical specifications, the Galaxy Z Fold5 is expected to have almost the same specs as its predecessor, although the report does not confirm whether it will have the power jump to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.
