While a few years ago, acquiring a second-hand iPhone It was something frowned upon, because everyone wanted the new one, for its tools, functions, and a bit of posturing, today things change, and many people, including myself, see it as unnecessary to pay so much for a model current, there are better options.
This is why the sale of second-hand iPhones, or even the increased useful life of these, by their owners, with changes of battery or other components, is more common, leaving aside the purchase of new iPhones.
New or second-hand iPhone?
Statistics can lead us to be wrong, because every year more models of the latest iPhone are sold, however, this is not because people renew theirs on a regular basis, but because each time, Apple’s market share , is older, and that, added to the durability of the equipment, makes many people opt for a new iPhone.
However, if we look at the holders of a iPhone 13, 14 or 15things change, and although the percentage of people who renewed their phone for the last one was high, now it is not so high, and the majority stay with the current one for longer, even selling it several years old and being bought by another person who, similarly, thinks the same, and does not see it profitable to buy an iPhone 16 this year.
All of this comes, as we already mentioned, from the few new features that we can observe from one version to another, something that, in the past, was not the case, since in each model the surprise of an important change made everyone want to have it. Currently, apart from a very high price, there are no those improvements where we said “wow”, but rather the innovation curve has been reduced, an iPhone 13 being practically the same as an iPhone 16at least for 99% of users and their needs.
In my case, with an iPhone 13 Pro, I have chosen to change its battery, because paying 99 euros is much more profitable than 1,400, and the new features of an iPhone 16 Pro are not that many, at least for now, in Spain , there is not even Apple Intelligence.
And you, what do you think of all this? Should Apple rethink its strategy with the new iPhones and release something that really attracts attention? Or, on the contrary, is it not the company’s fault, but rather that currently Is technology reaching a ceiling that is difficult to overcome, or at least quickly? Leave us a comment with your opinion about it, and if you are one of those who begin to stretch their iPhones, or are you still one of those people who, despite not having much change, always go for the latest model.
