You may not know it, but the photographic styles, which appeared on the iPhone 13, have been greatly improved on the iPhone 16 (and its variants). New Photo Styles provide more control to customize the look of your photos. Unlike simple filters, these styles adjust specific colors and tones for a tailored effect. Enough to create your own style for all your future photos.
Photographic Styles
Previously, iPhones offered four styles: Strong contrast, Lively, HotAnd Cold. The iPhone 16 enriches this list with new options like Fresh rose, Rose gold, Gold, Amberand others. Each style modifies the Yourthere Color and the Palette to adjust the brightness, saturation and intensity of the effect. We are a long way from basic filters, as long as we know how to adjust all that.
Here is the full list:
- Cold pink
- Neutral
- Rose gold
- Gold
- Amber
- Standard (no edition)
- Lively
- Natural
- Bright
- Dramatic
- Calm
- Cozy
- Ethereal
- Dimmed black and white
- Dark black and white
Configuration and Personalization
After taking at least four photos, you can set a Photographic Style basic by going to Settings > Camera > Photo Styles. Options include styles focused on skin tones, like Fresh rose And Amberwith additional settings to adjust brightness and saturation.
Once configured, the selected style automatically applies to all photos, but you can reset it at any time by going to Settings > Camera > Photo Styles > Reset to Default.
Real-Time Previews and Editing
In the Camera app, when you take a photo, if you tap the “chevron” icon to open the options, you can access the styles via the multi-layer button. Swiping changes your photographic style and you can use the controls below to customize the look of the photo by playing with intensity and more.
You can also access photographic styles from the new “camera control” button. Press the button once to open the Camera app, then press lightly to display the menu. Swipe until you get to Styles or Tone, then press the light key again to select it. To return to the menu and select another option, use a light double press.
Compatibility
THE Photographic Styles require format HEIFwhich you can activate in Settings > Camera > Formats by choosing High efficiency. To keep the style used in the Camera app as the default, go to Settings > Camera > Keep settings and activate Photographic Style.
Don’t have an iPhone 16? Well be aware that older iPhones do not support these features, only the basic styles. Too bad, because it really is a software bridge to sell the latest models. The comparison between iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 also showed a small difference overall.
