Tesla continues its series of recalls with a new campaign affecting nearly 700,000 vehicles in the United States. This time, it’s the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that is to blame. A problem which recalls the importance of road safety, and which is added to other numerous recalls from the manufacturer belonging to Elon Musk.

A warning light problem that concerns three models

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States announced that the recall affects exactly 694,304 Tesla vehicles, including:

  • The Cybertruck 2024
  • The Model 3 (2017-2025)
  • The Model Y (2020-2025)

The fault identified is related to the tire pressure monitoring system warning light not remaining illuminated between driving cycles. This failure could prevent the driver from being warned of insufficient tire pressure, thereby increasing the risk of an accident. According to NHTSA, this malfunction does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 138.

A year 2024 marked by recalls for Tesla

This new recall is added to a long list of similar interventions carried out by Tesla in 2024. The manufacturer notably had to deal with:

  • Seven different recalls for the Cybertruck since its launch
  • 1.8 million vehicles recalled in July for hood problem
  • Another recall of 2.2 million vehicles in February over too-small warning lights

Fortunately, as is often the case with Tesla, the correction will be deployed via a remote software update (OTA), without requiring a workshop visit. The owners concerned will receive an official notification by mail from February 15, 2025. More fear than harm therefore, even if you often have to wait for the authorities to realize the problems for the brand to react. But to go along with Tesla, the ability to quickly correct problems via software updates is becoming a major competitive advantage in the contemporary automotive industry.
