Another rumor about the next Vision. According to Mark Gurman’s latest Sunday “Power On” letter, Apple is still on track to launch the cheaper Vision headset next year, with a price tag of around $2,000. Earlier this year, Apple launched the Vision Pro at $3,499, then €3,999 in France, but it appears the company is now focusing on developing a more affordable successor. Price being the main obstacle to its adoption.
The company even reportedly paused development of the Vision Pro 2 to focus on this less expensive version.
A price almost halved
Our journalist friend noted that the entry-level headset will likely use a less capable processor and less expensive materials. While the Vision Pro is equipped with the M2 chip, the cheaper version could be equipped with an A-series chip, like the A18 Pro, which offers similar performance to the M1 chip. Or just an M1 chip.
As for materials, the new headset could incorporate more plastic components instead of the premium aluminum and glass design of the Vision Pro. A difference that we find more or less on the iPhone and the Apple Watch.
The report also states that the cheaper model will likely ditch the EyeSight feature found on the Vision Pro. EyeSight, which uses lenticular displays to show the user’s eyes to surrounding people, is considered a nice but expensive feature. Its removal would drastically reduce the costs of the new helmet.
Apple expects the cheaper Apple Vision headset to sell twice as much as the Vision Pro, but with the latter being shunned, the range could remain quite confidential. Furthermore, a Vision Pro 2 with a faster chip is planned for 2026, but without much change otherwise. For the record, analysts are counting on the Vision Pro 3 for real development.
In any case, Apple will remain at least six times more expensive than Meta, its direct competitor.
