In 2017, Apple launched the iMac Pro, its most powerful all-in-one computer at the time, aimed at professionals. However, despite persistent demand, Apple still does not offer an iMac with a larger screen in its current range, the one equipped with the M4.

A promising start

The iMac Pro was introduced at WWDC 2017, after Apple publicly admitted to neglecting its professional users. Designed as a compromise between the outdated cylindrical Mac Pro and the future modular Mac Pro, the iMac Pro seduced with its elegant space gray design and its impressive performance: Intel Xeon processors, AMD Vega graphics, Retina 5K display and Ethernet 10 connectivity. A premature end and a void in the lineup

Despite its success, Apple stopped producing the iMac Pro in March 2021, after the arrival of the Mac Pro (2019) and high-end options for the 27-inch iMac. The move to Macs with Apple Silicon chips has also redefined Apple’s desktop strategy.

However, after the discontinuation of the Intel-based 27-inch iMac in March 2022 and the launch of the only 24-inch M1 iMac in 2021, a gap has been created in the lineup for users looking for a large, all-in-one display. A.

Persistent rumors, but no official announcement

Since then, rumors about a larger iMac have been circulating regularly. In 2022, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo both claimed that Apple was working on a professional iMac with a larger screen, which could succeed the iMac Pro. However, some reports have claimed that Apple has no concrete plans in this area.

In July 2024, Gurman again raised the possibility that Apple would still explore this option, but without a specific timetable. Current speculation points to a possible launch in 2025, although no official details are available yet. For our part, we are leaning more towards a 32-inch iMac with an M4 Pro chip rather than a return of the iMac Pro.

In the meantime, the best Mac at the moment remains the Mac mini M4, which offers an excellent performance/price ratio thanks to the latest generation Apple Silicon chip.
