Following the latest sales reports, it can be seen that the iPhone 16 Pro model is the least sold of the year, logically below the rest of them, launched in the same period, something that may be surprising because it is not the most expensive either.
However, it follows a very logical pattern, and this model is one of those phones that doesn’t quite convince people, since it’s very expensive, and it doesn’t have everything it should, so they choose between the Max version or a cheaper one.
iPhone 16 Pro sales results
According to CIRP data, in the first quarter of 2025, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models together accounted for 38% of iPhone sales, down from 45% for the equivalent iPhone 15 models in the same period last year. Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro (the smaller model) fell to 17% of sales, down from 22% for the iPhone 15 Pro last year.
In contrast, the basic iPhone 16 sold significantly more than its predecessor, accounting for 20% of sales compared to 14% for the iPhone 15 in the same period last year. It seems that many people preferred to go with the simpler option, perhaps because it was sufficiently improved and, at the same time, is cheaper than the Pro models.
The arrival of the iPhone 16e has also led many to go for this type of terminal, which is cheaper but meets most needs, and many users, with little knowledge of technology, do not end up paying 500 euros more, just to have an extra camera or a screen with more Hz.
We will have to see how Apple approaches the arrival of the iPhone 17, with that new Air model, but it seems that the Pro are not entirely convincing, since, compared to the Max, they have little battery, and a logically smaller screen, so many, looking for that size, go for a normal 16 or 16e, and those who want something bigger and with autonomy, the Pro Max, leaving that Pro for a very specific audience, however, it does not surprise us either.
This isn’t bad news for Apple, as profit per device is very similar, even though the Pro is more expensive than the regular one, as it also costs more to produce. So, as long as overall sales remain this high, we don’t think there’ll be much change. They’ve currently become the world’s best-selling brand, ahead of Samsung for the first time, so it seems they’re doing better than we think.
And you, are you a Pro, Pro Max, or Plus user? Leave us a comment with your preferred iPhone type and why you chose that one. I have the Pro, and I wouldn’t go back to it, considering the difference in battery life compared to the Pro Max and the screen size. Once you get used to the Pro Max, it becomes too small, and you’ll want to try a larger one.
