For months, we’ve been receiving multiple leaks about the iPhone 17 Pro’s design, fueling the expectations of Apple’s most loyal fans. There was talk of a two-tone finish, a Google Pixel-style camera bar, and a chassis that would ditch titanium for aluminum.

However, if you were hoping for a radical change, you’d better slow down: the latest information suggests that the new iPhone will look quite similar to the current iPhone 16 Pro. And no, it’s not a joke.

What the iPhone 17 Pro will be like

According to journalist Mark Gurman, one of the most reliable voices in the Apple universe, the iPhone 17 Pro will maintain its current aesthetic. Ultimately, we won’t see a two-tone rear design or the supposedly extreme change that concepts and leaks promised. In his weekly newsletter, Gurman has cooled things down, assuring us that we won’t see “a particularly bold look.” The aesthetic revolution that many expected seems to have been diluted in favor of more restrained, though not insignificant, tweaks.

Where there will be changes is in the camera module. Apple is expected to give a twist to the design of this element, which could adopt a new layout or be significantly resized. It is the only visible nod to a renewal that, according to the company’s own internal sources, will be the most significant since the iPhone 12 in 2020. Even so, none of this will resemble the renders that have circulated on the internet, which suggests that Apple has played a deception, as so many times before.

This more conservative approach could disappoint those who expected a clear break with the past, but it can also be read as a measured strategy: Apple would be saving its true cards for 2027, the year in which the twentieth anniversary of the iPhone will be celebrated. And if we take as a reference what the launch of the iPhone X meant in 2017, which marked a new era in the design of smartphones, it is logical to think that the Cupertino company wants to make history again in two years.

Foldable iPhone: Coming in 2027

In this context, the theory that Apple will introduce not only an iPhone with more integrated glass in its structure in 2027, but also the long-awaited foldable model, gains strength. Yes, that same device that has been talked about for at least five years, but always seems “a couple of years” away from becoming a reality. Gurman’s sources assure that 2027 is the date marked in red for this long-awaited product, which would serve as the icing on the cake for a well-rounded celebration.

Foldable iPhone

Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro, judging by this latest information, won’t offer a groundbreaking redesign, but it could opt for a new balance between aluminum and glass that not only seeks lightness, but also better heat management and greater compatibility with some technologies, such as the wireless charging system. Apple, in its usual vein, prefers to take small steps when evolving rather than leaping into the void.

So if you were waiting for a completely different iPhone 17 Pro, you might want to reconsider. The real change seems to be in store for 2027.
