2025 is off to a good start. Season 2 of the series The Last of Us is coming very soon and the MAX streaming platform has spoiled us with a first trailer and a slightly more precise release date. On this momentum, it therefore seems interesting to look at the information we already have on season 2 which will be broadcast on the Max streaming platform in France. (Spoiler alert, the rest of this article reveals plot elements from season 1)

When will The Last of Us season 2 be released?

Unfortunately, HBO has not yet announced a specific release date for this sequel. In the trailer released a few days ago, however, it is specified that season 2 will be released in April 2025. We hoped to find Joel and Ellie a little earlier, but it’s better than nothing. We imagine that a more precise date will soon be announced by the platform.

What will the story be in season 2?

If early previews are anything to go by, the series will remain relatively faithful to the game that inspired it, even if it’s not a duplication either. We might as well warn you from the outset, you should expect very dark events, and even the most beloved heroes are in danger.

So let’s remember that episode 9 of season 1 left us with a bitter taste. Joel manages to save Ellie from the Fireflies who wanted to operate on her to find a cure. Except that this intervention would have killed him. He therefore eliminates each member of the group then lies to Ellie by telling her that the search for a cure has failed.

For season 2, a real jump in time will be made as in the game. Several years have passed, and, although our two heroes still live nearby, a certain distance has established between them.

The two showrunners of The Last of Us have already mentioned this sequel in an interview. Neil Druckmann explains for his part that this second season will not be modeled on the second game: “It will be different, just like this season has been. Sometimes it will be radically different, and sometimes it will be the same. »

Craig Mazin agrees: “It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show Neil and I want to make”.

What casting for this sequel to The Last of Us?

Spectators will not be too disoriented since we will find the duo made up of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the two main roles. Alongside them, we notice several newcomers and especially Kaitlyn Dever who has been officially confirmed in the role of Abby Anderson, a character who will take an important place in the plot.

Finally, we note the presence of Young Mazino, Isabela Merced, Danny Ramirez, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, and Jeffrey Wright.

Pedro Pascal has already addressed the future of his character in an interview. The Hollywood darling explains:

I think they will always find ways to build on the incredible source material they have and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format, like a TV series. But I wouldn’t want to spoil this for anyone, and the truth is I don’t have all the information yet.

That’s all for now. Are you, like us, enthusiastic for this season 2 of The Last of Us ? Tell us in the comments.
