A new year begins for the automotive world and manufacturers around the world continue their transition to electric cars. After a commercially complicated year in 2024, Tesla, Volkswagen, Alpine and even Porsche should return to the forefront in 2025, with an electric car made for their customers.

Tesla Model Y Juniper

How can we talk about electric cars without mentioning Elon Musk’s company? Despite the growth of Chinese firms, BYD in the lead, Tesla remains the number 1 brand for electric vehicles. So when she tackles the Model Y, the best-selling car in Europe and the world in 2023, it’s a sensation.

With this new version, Tesla is expected to add light bars at the front and rear. The car should also be improved in terms of the cabin, providing more comfort to users. What technical changes are also to be expected on this new Tesla Model Y.

Volkswagen ID. 2

Another iconic firm, the German brand Volkswagen could make a comeback in 2025. It should take advantage of the next 12 months to launch its ID.2. Presented from March 2023, the car is still not marketed, but it should arrive shortly.

Good news, its price would be very affordable, with a model having 300 kilometers of autonomy, all for less than 25,000 euros. Despite this very affordable price, Volkswagen promises to emphasize the quality of finishes.

Alpine A390

Let’s take a detour to France now, with Renault’s subsidiary, Alpine. After the arrival of the A290 in 2024, Alpine could do it again with the A390. Under the hood, it should break many records. Alpine promises 3 engines and 4-wheel drive, enough to offer sporty sensations in an electric car.

We had a preview of this new model during the last edition of the Paris Motor Show. With the Alpine A390_β, we discovered new lines, closer to an SUV than to the French brand’s historic small sports cars.

Citroën C5 AirCross

Still in France, it is Citroën which should hit hard in 2025. The chevron firm could launch the C5 AirCross in the next 12 months. After the renewal of the C3 and C3 AirCross, it is logically the C5 which will have the right to its hour of glory.

Regarding motorization and autonomy, two theories clash. The first calls for a small, affordable battery (500 kilometers), the second aims for a large 97 kWh battery pushing the range above 700 kilometers. It remains to be seen whether Citroën will be able to push these characteristics without the price soaring.

BMW New Class

Now let’s return to Germany, with BMW. If the German brand made itself known with the i8 in the world of electric cars, it has since expanded its catalog and intends to take advantage of 2025 to launch a new model.

With the Neue Klasse X, BMW’s ambition is clear: to offer high-end vehicles to compete with Tesla in Europe. With this SUV with neat lines and XXL autonomy, BMW wants to overshadow the American giant. A daring bet, which must be won at all costs for BMW, the brand not offering entry-level models.

Fiat Panda SUV

In Italy, on the contrary, Fiat wants to specialize in these economical cars, which allow you to go electric without breaking the bank. Based on the features that made Citroën’s C3 Aircross a success, the Italian brand would like to launch an SUV variant of its Panda.

Expected from €27,000, it should have a range of 300 km. Will it succeed in establishing itself on the electric car market? where will she be a commercial failure like the Fiat e-500? We will only know in 12 months.

Kia EV4

Still designed for the European market, the KIA EV4 should arrive at the end of 2025. The South Korean brand wants to compete with Renault (and its Mégane) as well as Volkswagen (and its ID.3). With the EV4, it is banking on a sort of “miniature EV9”, while using the technical sheet of the EV3.

It will therefore be necessary to rely on a 204 horsepower engine, all with 58 kWh or 81 kWh batteries for the version with greater autonomy. In terms of design, KIA is focusing on a compact sedan, designed for the city.

Nissan Leaf

In the same style, Nissan should continue its rise in the electric car market. With a new version of the Leaf, closer to a crossover than a real SUV. Under the hood, Nissan is expected to offer two battery choices, ranging from 60 to 87 kWh. Maximum range is estimated at 620 kilometers.

The arrival of this new model must in any case mark a turning point for Nissan. If the brand had reached record profits a few years ago (with very popular models like the Qashqai or the Juke), recent years have been more complicated and the electric market has not been successful for the Japanese firm.

Porsche 718

But the arrival of electric cars in the automotive world does not mean the premature death of sports cars and Porsche has understood this well. The German brand plans to market the 718 in 2025.

The arrival of this model is however not certain, Porsche is encountering several supply problems, particularly regarding batteries with the Northvolt company in great financial difficulty.

Ferrari…?

Finally, extravagance should reach its climax at Ferrari. The luxurious Italian manufacturer has not yet produced any electric car and although the PuroSangue with its hybrid engine has already caused much discussion, the first 100% electric red car.

Officially announced in 2021, the car should arrive in 2025, after years of rumors and various doubts. Several rumors nevertheless mention the presence of a real sound experience, with an audio device patented by Ferrari to reproduce the sound of a V8.
