mi store icon app ipa iphoneThe Redmi Turbo 4 has been officially launched, and, although it is Android, we are very interested in it. The Xiaomi subsidiary, which sells more phones than Apple in Asia, offers a quality/price ratio that makes the iPhone SE uncomfortable. Monster battery, 120 Hz OLED screen or even ultra-fast charging, it is nevertheless sold for less than €300…

An incredible mid-range model

The Redmi Turbo 4 first impresses with its autonomy thanks to a 6,550 mAh battery which supports 90 W wired charging. Enough to last up to 3 days according to the company and easily the same day in intensive use.

The phone also features a 6.77-inch OLED LTPS display, offering 1220p resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 3,200 nits peak brightness and is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i according to the official file.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate its dual-camera setup, which includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, complemented by a 20-megapixel front-facing selfie camera. For durability, the Redmi Turbo 4 is impressively certified with IP66, IP68, and IP69 for dust and water resistance. It comes pre-installed with Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15, providing a modern software experience. Connectivity is complete with Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, an infrared port, 5G support, USB Type-C and Wi-Fi 6, which is amazing for such a price.

On the processor side, the Turbo 4 even has the luxury of introducing the MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Ultra chipset, a chip that does better in multi-core than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3.

Comparison with iPhone SE

  • Design and build: The iPhone SE (2022) has a more compact design with a 4.7-inch Retina LCD display, which is significantly smaller than the Turbo 4’s OLED display which runs at 120 fps. The Redmi, on the other hand, is more imposing: height 161 mm, width 75.2 mm, thickness 8.1 mm, weight 203 grams. But the design is very similar with the future SE, inspired by the iPhone 14.
  • Battery and Charging: The iPhone SE has a much smaller 2018 mAh battery and supports slower 20W wired charging, making the Redmi Turbo 4 a big winner in battery life and charging speed.
  • Performance: While the iPhone SE uses Apple’s A15 Bionic chip, known for its efficiency and performance under iOS, the Redmi Turbo 4’s MediaTek Dimensity 8400-Ultra offers competitive performance, especially in multi-core tasks.
  • Camera: The iPhone SE has a single 12 MP rear camera, which benefits from Apple’s computational photography for good photo quality. In contrast, the Redmi Turbo 4’s dual-camera setup offers more versatility with an ultra-wide option, although comparing photo quality would require real-world testing.
  • Software Experience: iPhone SE runs the latest, still unrivaled iOS. On the other hand, the Redmi Turbo 4 offers Android 15 with HyperOS 2.0, offering extensive customization but potentially a less streamlined user experience compared to iOS.
  • Connectivity and features: The iPhone SE supports 5G but lacks some of the connectivity options like an infrared port present in the Redmi Turbo 4. Both devices support NFC, but the new Bluetooth and The Turbo 4’s Wi-Fi is another plus.

In summary, the Redmi Turbo 4 is what iPhone SE customers would like, namely a high-performance and inexpensive device. Technologies like 120 Hz have existed on smartphones for more than ten years, as has very fast charging or an OLED screen worthy of the name. But rest assured, Apple intends to make up some of its lost ground with the 4th generation iPhone SE, potentially called iPhone 16E. It should have an OLED panel with Face ID, a 48 Megapixel camera or even an updated design. But not sure that the autonomy is as good as that of the Turbo 4.

The Redmi Turbo 4 is expected to be available globally as Poco X7 Pro.
