As we approach the date of the long-awaited presentation of the iPhone 17, more details are being obtained about the most anticipated model, which is undoubtedly the iPhone 17 Air. New mockups have emerged that can give us an idea of how Apple made important adjustments to accommodate all the components of the iPhone in a chassis that turns out to be thinner and more compact. Remember that it will be 5.5 mm, contrasting with the 8.25 mm of the iPhone 16 Pro; it will be a crazy iPhone. A video was published on the AppleTrack channel on YouTube.

The iPhone 17 Air shows how relevant its design will be in these new mockups.

As the bottom view shows, where the USB-C port is located, some changes can be noticed in the final position of the port and in the speaker grilles. For example, the port is positioned more downwards instead of being centered, and only two holes were considered for the grilles on each side of the iPhone. Apple surely didn’t hesitate to reduce these types of details in order to get the necessary space for the battery, processor, screen, and speakers to fit into the slim chassis.

Part of the space savings is also reflected in the single rear camera that the iPhone 17 Air will have , and it seems that what was feared with the SIM tray will be confirmed: it will disappear to give it exclusive eSIM compatibility globally, something that is exclusive until now only for users in the United States since the iPhone 14.

Apple’s C1 modem will be crucial to achieving good battery life.

We know we have to take advantage of Wi-Fi when we have access to the internet. In case we go without it for a few hours a day, the C1 modem will be present in the iPhone 17 Air, a component already present in the iPhone 16e. This component will be crucial to having a slim iPhone 17 Air with good battery life, precisely due to its compact and slim size. This could be questioned due to its 6.6-inch screen, a size previously seen only in the Plus and Pro Max models.

iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro thickness comparison

The trend that Apple could set with this iPhone is to have thinner devices. It already started with the iPad Pro, and the next product that could change would be the MacBook Pro in 2026. What is impressive is that for years, Apple has had this trend but has not strengthened it. Steve Jobs started it with the MacBook Air and later resumed with the launch of the 12-inch MacBook. While it is true that the current MacBook Air has an adequate thickness, nothing will compare to what those in Cupertino want to achieve with the MacBook Pro, a laptop that has historically been large in size and not at all thin in thickness.
