Games are taking up more and more space, and to top it all off, the cheaper versions of the PS5 don’t exactly come with a ton of storage. Sony is practically forcing us to get an additional SSD for the console, but it’s important to know that not just any model will do.
It’s no longer uncommon to find titles that exceed 100GB of disk space, leaving no room to properly enjoy their game library. Even the PS5 Pro, which comes with a very substantial 2TB of storage, can end up filling up with extensive libraries, and having to uninstall games and reinstall them is a hassle no one likes. Especially considering that in most cases, the installation includes downloading most of the game, even if you have it in physical format.
That’s why it’s essential to have a good additional storage device. However, there are many external and internal SSDs, and not just any will work with the Sony console. For a drive to be compatible with PS5 games, Sony itself tells us it must have read speeds of at least 5500 MB/s.
Very few models meet this requirement, but today we’re here to save you the trouble of searching. Here’s a selection of the best SSDs compatible with PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Fanxiang S660 2TB
The Chinese brand Fanxiang has an NVMe M.2 SSD that the manufacturer itself claims is compatible with the PS5. It has a spectacular 2 TB capacity, which, given its low price, is hard to believe.

This, coupled with its nominal speed of up to 5,000 MB/s, makes some wonder if it really delivers, but just check the Amazon reviews, where it’s highly popular, to see if that’s the case. In fact, if you dig a little deeper into specialized forums like Reddit, you’ll find user testimonials confirming its proper functioning.
