In 2024, Apple would continue to think about television. A few days ago, in an article, journalist Mark Gurman indicated that, if the firm manages to popularize its connected screen for the home, it could then launch into SmartTVs. In any case, this would be a possibility which is being evaluated by the company. However, in a new publication, Gurman tempers this by recalling the disadvantages that the television market would have for Apple.
Televisions generate little profit and users do not change them as frequently as they change smartphones. Additionally, transporting TVs from the production plant to the consumer would be a serious logistical challenge for Apple. For all these reasons, it is possible that this Apple television project will fall through. However, for the journalist, if Apple wishes to establish itself in the TV market, it should instead offer an affordable HDMI key, similar to Google’s Chromecast.
A product to popularize Apple services?
The idea would be to offer a simpler product, but also more accessible than the Apple TV, which would provide access to tvOS and the Apple ecosystem. Thanks to its more affordable price, this Apple product could sell better than Apple TVs. And this could attract more subscribers to the firm’s services, such as Apple TV+. In addition, Apple would strengthen its presence in its customers’ homes. But the problem is that it is not certain that, despite these advantages, Apple managers are willing to launch a cheap product.
In any case, it is important to note that the Chromecast is one of the most popular Google products. The first version of Chromecast was launched in 2013 and Google announced this year the end of this product. During these 11 years, the Mountain View firm has sold more than 100 million units. As a reminder, Google has decided to no longer produce Chromecast, but to market, instead, the Google TV Streamer (which is not an HDMI key).
- Apple is still trying to establish itself on televisions and according to a recent publication by Mark Gurman, the firm is even thinking of launching a Smart TV
- However, for the journalist, the best way for Apple to establish itself would be to launch an affordable product similar to Google’s Chromecast
- This product could be more popular than Apple TV, and attract more users to the Cupertino company’s services, such as Apple TV+
- However, it is not certain whether Apple is willing to launch this type of affordable product
