You may be thinking of acquiring an Apple computer this 2025, and among the options, you have seen a imaca team that comes with everything necessary, from the integrated screen, to the “gift” Apple keyboard, ideal to have everything and start using it.
And it is true that at the level of comfort, it is to click, wait for it to reach, plug it in, and ready, but at the economic and benefit level, I think it is not a Good purchase in 2025and today we are going to see my reasons for it, although everyone can have their opinion, especially depending on the needs.
Reasons not to buy an iMac
Although there are many reasons to do so, today we will focus on their disadvantages, at least with respect to other options such as Mac Mini, since there are alternatives that can be better in many aspects. We will summarize them.
- The price: And we have to start here, since the cheapest IMAC costs 1,519 euros, and although it brings an incorporated screen and keyboard, it is much more than we can see a Mac Mini M4, which only is worth 719 euros (599 euros in Amazon) and has a power even higher than the base imac base, so we will mount something for much less money.
- Expensive repairs: While a Mac Mini or any other desktop computer sets independent pieces, an IMAC is a whole in one, so a simple break on the screen, will force us to change its original piece, being able to be very expensive, and not giving us alternatives to it.
- Data loss: In the same way as the previous point, the one that fails the screen or any component of this PC all in one, makes us not be able to use it, so unlike another computer, that we connect to a new screen and ready, in this we will have no choice but to fix it, although in this case, and with the new models, we can add a second emergency monitor and share that information, but it has many more risks than if everything were independent.
- Updates: We cannot increase the RAM, the capacity, or the inches of the screen in a simple way, or cheap, so you have to see very well what we buy, since it will remain so forever.
- Portability: While a Mac Mini does not weigh or occupies anything, and we can take it on vacation, using our iPhone as keyboard and mouse, and the Hotel TV (for example), as a monitor, in the case of the IMAC it would be necessary to take it whole, being dangerous and above all, voluminous.
In summary, if we do not care about money, we have space, and we are clear about what we want, the IMAC is a good option, however, at the level of options, it can fall short in the future, so a Mac Mini would be much better choice, and above all, more economical.
