Apple specializes in the high-end segment, but from time to time it launches a more affordable mid-range model. Apple’s last affordable model was the iPhone SE 2022. And for a while, rumors have been circulating about the next model which is expected to be released in 2025.
However, according to a recent rumor, it’s possible that Apple’s next affordable model won’t be an iPhone SE. In a recent article, the site 91mobiles relays “Fixed focus digital”, a source from the Chinese social network Weibo, which indicates that Apple would abandon the iPhone SE brand. And instead of the iPhone SE 4 or the iPhone SE 2025, the Cupertino company would launch a model called iPhone 16e.
For the moment, caution is advised, as this is not an official source. But in any case, with such branding, Apple would take direct inspiration from certain Android smartphone manufacturers who release mid-range versions of their flagships with a similar scheme. For example, this year Google released the Pixel 8a, which is an affordable version of the Pixel 8 launching in 2023.
iPhone SE or iPhone SE 2025: what should you expect?
No matter what name this smartphone will have, it should be a particularly interesting model. Indeed, according to numerous rumors, the next affordable iPhone should have a modern design with a “borderless” OLED screen and a Face ID scanner, unlike the iPhone SE 2022 which has the same design as the iPhone 8 .
If Apple does not break with its traditions, this affordable iPhone should also have the same processor as the iPhone 16. And it is rumored that it could be compatible with Apple Intelligence. Otherwise, on the camera side, Apple could equip this successor to the iPhone SE 2022 with a single 48-megapixel sensor on the back, which would make it possible to take fairly good photos.
