The video streaming site YouTube is one of the most visited on the entire Internet, which is why Google is putting so much effort into improving it. The home page has just been modified, as we’re about to tell you.
Or we say all this because the new YouTube app for TVs has just introduced multiple changes to the content display on its homepage, and not all of them are going to be to your liking. In fact, YouTube has been causing a stir recently with major changes coming to its app for TVs and consoles.
However, we can confirm that many of these changes being introduced aren’t meeting the initial expectations. For example, in April of this year, YouTube mentioned it was working on a redesigned video player and other improvements. But now we know there’s much more in the works, and some things aren’t exactly attractive or interesting.
The official YouTube app will add several shelves to give us quick access to specific videos. On one hand, we’ll find a ” Continue Search” section that shows us the three main searches, allowing us to return to where we left off. On the other hand, the ” Listen Again” shelf is dedicated to music, showing us the best songs we’ve previously searched for and listened to.
Live performances, remixes, and covers show us other versions of our favorite songs, in addition to the official versions. And in Primetime Channels, we’ll see content from our subscribed channels, as well as the most searched and recently viewed ones. On the aforementioned welcome screen, we’ll see a new tab called Podcasts, which will also allow us to quickly access podcasts directly from here.
YouTube wants to boost the viewing of short films
Now, the problem comes if you don’t like short videos, something that many YouTube regulars do. From now on, this video content will be separated from longer videos so we can access it more easily.
Specifically, there will be a special section for these shorts on the app’s welcome screen. A short shelf is also coming to the subscription tab, which many will hate. On the other hand, it’s worth mentioning that we’ll also be able to loop more content. This was previously only available in playlists, but now we’ll be able to loop more content with the touch of a button.
One of the most interesting changes we’re seeing is an improved preview experience. Integrated previews have been extended to the streaming platform’s channel, subscription, and topic pages. Immersive previews for subscribed channels have also been completed.
On the other hand, content creators will also be able to see a new card to check playback times independently from their mobile phone, computer, TV, and tablet.
