In an exclusive interview with Reuters, Bill Gates shared his views on artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on society. Gates stressed that AI has the potential to be of “great benefit” to humanity, as long as it is developed and used responsibly.
Although some (Elon Musk) have called for a pause in AI development due to safety and ethical concerns, Gates believes this position is wrong. Instead, he advocates accelerating AI progress to address the most pressing problems facing the world, such as climate change, disease, and poverty.
Gates acknowledges that AI carries certain risks, such as the potential for misuse or exacerbating existing inequalities. However, he maintains that these risks can be mitigated through a responsible approach to their development and regulation. “I think the right way to approach AI is to say, ‘We’re going to develop these technologies, but we’re going to do it in a way that takes into account the risks and the potential for misuse,'” Gates said in the interview.
The businessman also stressed that he does not believe that there is a way to stop the progress of AI, but that we must take advantage of it to solve global challenges. Gates is convinced that technology can be a powerful tool to meet the challenges facing humanity and improve the quality of life for people around the world.
