Since the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro, we notice that the use of the Dynamic Island by third-party applications is very timid. The developers have not made any real effort so far, unlike the widgets on the iOS 16 lock screen. However, Apple intends to “boost” its Dynamic Island with iOS 16.1!
Live Activities on the lock screen and in… The Dynamic Island!
It’s one of the promises of iOS 16, Apple will soon offer users Live Activities, a large widget that will appear at the bottom of your lock screen and allow you to follow the results of a match of football, the arrival of your VTC, the delivery of your Uber Eats order… Quick access to information refreshed in real time without needing to unlock your iPhone and access the application in question.
While the idea is probably one of the best in iOS 16, Apple customers who have made the decision to invest in the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max are going to have a further experience. Indeed, as noted by developer Paul Bradford, the Dynamic Island will play a part in the Live Activities feature.
To put it simply, when an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max has an ongoing Live Activites, it will have the information on the lock screen (like all iPhone generations eligible for iOS 16)but unlike other iPhones, the Live Activites will continue the accompaniment while navigating through apps via the Dynamic Island.
As you can see in the photo above, the Dynamic Island displays the real-time score for each team during a Premier League football match. Even better, the user can make a long press on the Dynamic Island for more details. It will be possible to know since when the match has been in progress as well as the last important action.
A feature not available in France (for now)
If this extension to the Dynamic Island will be available for all applications that will use the Live Activities of iOS 16.1, with regard to football matches, France not affected at this time.
To have the score in real time, the “TV” app will have to support MLB, NBA or Premier League matches, which is not announced for France at launch.
As explained for Apple, MLB games will be accessible via the “TV” app in the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and South Korea. As for the NBA and Premier League, US and Canadian customers will be the only ones to be able to access it.
As soon as it is available in France, all you have to do is open the “TV” application and then press the “Follow” button on the sheet of the match you are interested in. You will then have your match tracked in the Live Activites on the lock screen as well as in the Dynamic Island if you have an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max.
Thanks to this novelty just detected, the Dynamic Island will have a new interest, the latest innovation from Apple needed it, because it was under fire from critics for its usefulness which would be “reviewed”. At least, that’s what Android specialists say…
Okay this is definitely my favorite Dynamic Island feature so far. Live sports scores, available in the iOS 16.1 beta.
