The DJI Action 2 is the new action camera from the Chinese brand, which replaces the Osmo Action. The concept this time is very different from what GoPro offers, especially with the possibility of adding modules. It is found today on Amazon with 40 or 50 euros reduction depending on the pack chosen.
DJI has entered the action camera market to become the best alternative to GoPro to date, but with its Action 2, the manufacturer is trying to bring a different approach to its competitor. Indeed, this new solution relies on the ultra compact and modular aspect, for example to add a second screen or a battery extension. Launched at the end of 2021, it now benefits from its first interesting promotion thanks to an immediate 10% discount.
What to remember about the DJI Action 2
- An action camera as small as it is light
- Capable of shooting up to 4K at 120 fps
- Waterproof without case up to 10 meters
- Can be used as a PC webcam
Instead of the usual 399 euros, the DJI Action 2 Power Combo pack including a battery extension module is now available on sale at 359 euros on Amazon. There is also the Dual-Screen Combo pack adding a second screen for 469 euros instead of 519 euros.

A powerful mini camera
The DJI Action 2 is completely different from the old model. Gone is the GoPro look, so here we see a much more minimalist design leaving room only for the 1/1.7-inch 12-megapixel CMOS sensor (estimated 1.5 times larger than that of the GoPro Hero10) at the bottom. front and the 1.76-inch OLED touch screen displaying a definition of 446 x 424 pixels on the back. The camera is then intended to be ultra compact, with dimensions of 39 x 39 x 22.3 millimeters for only 56 grams on the scale. It’s really tiny and great for occasional use as a PC webcam, but its small size doesn’t mean it’s underperforming.
Indeed, the new DJI action cam can film in 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) at up to 120 frames per second, or in Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) at up to 240 frames per second, in a 155 degree field of view thanks to its f/2.8 lens. The latter is also accompanied by a dedicated color temperature sensor, which improves color fidelity, especially underwater, as the Action 2 is waterproof up to 10 meters without a case. There are obviously many features, the most important of which is the HorizonSteady electronic stabilization, which as its name suggests maintains the horizon even when the camera is rotated 360 degrees. There is also the possibility of slow motion, taking Time Lapse up to 4K, going through QuickClip mode to record short videos of 10, 15 or 30 seconds as well as capturing 12 megapixel photos in JPEG format. or RAW.
Do you want modules, here you go!
The main novelty of the DJI Action 2 is obviously the possibility of adding additional modules to improve the experience. In the first pack, the camera comes with an additional battery which increases the autonomy to 180 minutes, against 50 minutes without. In the second, you will have a second screen of the same size as the camera, facing forward to have very useful video feedback for Vlogging. In both cases, you will have a neck strap with a magnetic hook to film in first person view (also called FPV or POV).
As usual, you will need to install the DJI Mimo application to remote control the camera, broadcast live images, transfer photos/videos, and above all offers essential editing functions. You can store a lot of content thanks to an internal storage space of 32 GB, but a pity that it is essential to go through an additional module to increase the memory via a microSD.
