Will 6G really improve our connections?

It can be said that 5G has just landed (in fact, it is not present in many places yet), but information about the 6G. It will be the future mobile technology that promises to revolutionize the sector. Now are you really going to improve our connections? Is it going to make a significant leap in quality? In this article we are going to talk about it. We are going to really explain how it can help ordinary users on a day-to-day basis.

6G, much more than speed

If we think about the current speed that we achieved with 5G, it really is more than enough for the use that we give to the Internet today. If 6G appeared tomorrow with its 100 Gbps, which it seems that it could reach when it becomes available from the year 2030, we would not really be able to take advantage of it. There are no applications or online services that need or can take advantage of that speed.

will we need as much speed in 10 years? Think about how the Internet has changed from 2013 to today and you can get an idea of how everything can change in a matter of 7-10 years. New platforms and services will most likely appear that do require a significant improvement in Internet speed. A clear example is how Streaming today requires an Internet speed of at least 25 Mbps to watch movies and series in 4K, while not too long ago ADSL barely offered a maximum of 20 Mbps.

But the 6G goes more than just speed. There are functions that we are going to take advantage of more than speed in a few years, such as 3D location, holographic communications or autonomous cars. Although 5G has improved a lot, the truth is that there is still a long way to go for certain tasks.

For example, in terms of latency, although 5G took a very important leap compared to 4G, 6G is expected to be even better. Having a ping or latency that does not exceed 1 ms is going to be key to the changes that are expected in the next decade, such as carrying out remote operations as usual, the issue of autonomous cars, virtual reality, etc.

More changes at the commercial level than domestic

However, at least in general we can say that more changes are expected at the commercial level than at home. Although it is true that it will bring changes to make better use of the home automation and IoT devicesit is in the commercial field where we are going to see all these advances to a greater extent.

For example in the telemedicine and industrial sectors. There we are going to see that future connections thanks to 6G are going to be used much more than simply on the mobile that we all have in our pockets. Although we have speed improvements and low latency, we will not take advantage of it as much.

It is something similar to what has happened with 5G. Has it really meant a big change at the home user level? Ok, there is greater speed, less latency and coverage in many cases has improved. But beyond specific cases, on a day-to-day basis we continue to use technology for practically the same. Of course, you may have to wait a while. It is somewhat similar to home networks with 10 Gbps. It is something that, in general terms, we cannot take advantage of at least today.
