Although Apple is known for renewing almost its entire line of products annually, or, at most, every 2 years, it is true that, in some types of products, things change, and we can go a long time without seeing a new model, as is the case with the Mac Pro.
The last of the Mac Pros that we saw came out in 2023, and everything indicates that not only will it not come out this year, but we would not see it in 2026 either, so, at least, we would go 4 years without a renewal (if not more), which leads us to think that, currently, it is not a bad purchase if we need one.
There will be no Mac Pro until 2027
From what we have been able to see in recent months, Apple has no plans to launch a new Mac Pro, at least for the moment, according to what MacRumors tells us. The most recent model is 2023which arrived with the M2 Ultra chip, and although many people thought that Apple would continue to release this device with its most recent chip versions, it seems that the company has decided to put the brakes on that line for now. According to these sources, Apple would have stopped work on the M4 Ultra chipwhich in theory should be the natural successor to the M2 Ultra, and with it the Mac Pro that was going to use that processor would also have been paralyzed, which suggests to us that there will not be one soon.
Instead of continuing to push the Mac Pro as your most powerful professional computer, Apple would be giving more importance to the Mac Studio. This equipment, which is also aimed at users who need a lot of capacity (the Mac Mini being insufficient), would gradually become the main option within the desktop range. Even the next advanced chip, the so-called M5 Ultra, would be intended for the Mac Studio and not for the Mac Pro, which reinforces the idea that Apple wants to focus its efforts on that model.
This doesn't necessarily mean that the Mac Pro is going away, but it does imply that it's not a priority right now. There are no signs that Apple is preparing a major renewal for the coming yearsand there is no mention of any active project related to a totally new model either. For now, the outlook suggests that the company wants to maintain the Mac Pro line, although without major changes.
In short, those who expect a renewed Mac Pro in a short time will probably have to wait longer than expected. Apple seems to be focused on the Mac Studio as its reference professional computer, at least for now, so, in 2026, at least, there won't be one, and who knows if in 2027. Be that as it may, it is not an option to wait for the next one, and if you need one, the current one would be the one, even if its chip is already “outdated.”
