Popular Science unveils its annual ranking of the most innovative technological products released in 2024. A ranking dominated by Apple with its Vision Pro. An opinion shared by many in the tech world, although the device is still far from perfect.

“A new dimension for augmented reality”

Popular Scienceoften abbreviated to PopSci, is an American magazine devoted to the popularization of science and technology. It was founded in 1872 and is one of the oldest and most respected magazines in this field. Since 1988, each December they have offered an annual ranking of the most notable technological products of the year.

In its latest ranking of the “50 biggest innovations of 2024”, PopSci crowned the Apple Vision Pro in first place. Despite an ultra-premium price, this AR/VR headset is indeed “the most impressive tech item of 2024.” Several criteria justify this choice.

The Apple Vision Pro is unanimously considered a technological masterpiece. Anyone who has had the chance to try it immediately recognizes that it provides new sensations in various areas. In addition, its responsiveness to user requests and its perfect integration into the brand’s ecosystem make it an even more attractive device. Without forgetting its full use only with the hands and eyes, another impressive aspect to its credit.

After the initial hype, many users eventually put their Vision Pro on a shelf. Technological limitations, such as its size and small wired battery with a maximum battery life of two hours, make it impractical for extended daily use. According to rumors, a second generation Vision Pro would be in preparation for the end of 2025, beginning of 2026. If the price is unlikely to drop, many are hoping for a significant improvement on several points such as the size of the helmet, its autonomy or even its versatility. Compatibility with PlayStation VR controllers would be the perfect example.
