Among the most successful series on Apple TV+, we find Slow Horses, a British series which has shattered all of Apple’s objectives. After a first, second, third and fourth season, fans are impatiently waiting for the fifth season. While it hasn’t even been released yet, Apple is renewing its series for a sixth season, a sign of absolute confidence in its program.
A season 6 renewed quickly to reduce the wait
This is an extremely rare occurrence, Apple has decided not to wait for the audiences for season 5 of Slow Horses to renew the series for a sixth season. In a surprise announcement, the Cupertino company revealed that a new season of six episodes was already in preparation. Gary Oldman will continue to play the lead role of Jackson Lamb, a key character in this spy thriller.
This early renewal decision is not only motivated by the excellent audiences. This year, Slow Horses also won prestigious awards, including an Emmy and a BAFTA, which significantly strengthens Apple’s confidence in the series. According to reports, these awards potentially played a key role in the decision to renew before season 5 even aired.
This Apple initiative allows the creative team to begin writing and filming new episodes quickly, thus limiting the wait between seasons. Season 6 could therefore be broadcast as early as the first or second quarter of 2025. If Apple had waited for the audiences for season 5, the wait could potentially have been a year or more!
Jay Hunt, creative director for Apple TV+ in Europe, confirmed the news today in a press release. He praised the series as “the best spy series on television” and a “grandiose” thriller.
Audiences around the world have fallen in love with Slow Horses, and I’m thrilled that Gary Oldman will lead this star-studded cast in another nail-biting, action-packed adventure
The sixth season promises to plunge the Slow Horses into a dangerous game of revenge, with a cast of impressive talents: Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar and Jonathan Pryce will return. Gaby Chiappe will serve as co-executive producer, while Adam Randall returns to direct.
For those who haven’t yet discovered Slow Horses, the series follows a group of MI5 agents relegated for their failures in the field. However, these agents who are underestimated are capable of achieving exceptional things and have great value.
