Finding the right house was very difficult
Chris Columbus and his team took several weeks to find the house that suited them best for this shoot. They opted for a home located in Winnetka, Illinois. According to them, the latter gave off both a warm and disturbing atmosphere.
Quoted by Entertainment Weeklythe filmmaker explains as follows: “I took some pictures and sent them to John, and I remember John saying, ‘This is perfect. This is exactly how I imagined the house”.
The screenplay was written at lightning speed
According to Business Insiderit only took John Hughes nine days to write a first draft of the screenplay for this feature film. It would have been written following a family trip to Europe. The author thus confided:
I was going on vacation. And I made a list of everything I didn’t want to forget. I told myself that I better not forget my children. Then I thought, “What if I left my 10-year-old son at home? What would he do?
Macaulay Culkin improvised this legendary scene
In the film, the passage where Kevin puts on aftershave is remembered. However, the young actor had improvised this passage. Chris Columbus rightly confided on this subject:
If you put something that burns on your face, most people immediately move their hands. So I asked him to move his hands and scream when his face is tapped. And I think it was the first take, he kept his hands on his cheeks. It’s funny, the iconic moment in ‘Home Alone’ was an accident.
