Developers have already shown jailbroken iPads and Apple TVs running the latest iPadOS 18 and tvOS 18, exploiting the checkm8 vulnerability, a hardware flaw. This exploit, which affects the 7th-generation iPad and some Apple TVs, cannot be patched with software updates, which is an ongoing challenge for Apple.
iPad 7th generation and iPadOS 18
The hacker @dora2iosa member of the famous palera1n jailbreak team, has released a video showing a jailbroken 7th generation iPad running iPadOS 18. Despite this progress, the hacker indicated that many features were “broken” and that the jailbreak was “incomplete”. This was to be expected in such a short time.
There’s still a long way to go, but this demonstration gives hope for a more stable version in the future. The sensitivity of the 7th generation iPad to checkm8 makes it a prime candidate for jailbreak.
I just jailbreak ios 18 iPad (7gen/A10) now (checkm8)
many are broken and still incomplete. pic.twitter.com/jhGUstLmIR— ねこ (@dora2ios) June 11, 2024
Apple TV and tvOS 18
In addition to the iPad, some Apple TV models (including the first-generation Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K) are also vulnerable to the checkm8 exploit. Hacker Nick Chan (@riscv64) shared a screenshot of a jailbroken Apple TV box running tvOS 18. Nick Chan admitted to using “a bunch of hacks” and mentioned many existing issues, indicating that a public release is not imminent. However, with tvOS 18 still in beta, there is no rush to release a jailbreak.
please note that this is a pile of hacks and there’s a lot of issues right now so it probably would be sometime before this could possibly release pic.twitter.com/uvv68fvFAH

What about other devices?
For newer devices with A12 chips or newer, the outlook is less positive, of course. These devices, starting with iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, come with enhanced security features like the Secure Page Table Monitor (SPTM), which has not yet been bypassed. Therefore, no jailbreak is available for iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.
