The downgrade and jailbreak tool, based on the checkm8 flaw, supports A10X and A11 devices, up to the iPhone X. Semaphorin, that’s its name, is a downgrade and jailbreak utility for some devices vulnerable to checkm8 bootrom exploitation running various versions of old firmware. It doesn’t require any previously saved blobs, and that’s a game changer.
What is Semaphorin?
From developer y08wilm, Semaphorin is a tethered jailbreak and downgrade tool (you have to re-jailbreak via a computer after each reboot) that aims to allow older devices to move from one version to another smoothly.
The first final version of Semaphorin
In a message shared on the community forum Redditthe developers have made amends for the heavily bugged first release. Since then, they have worked hard to improve the tool’s reliability and usefulness to the community. At the same time, it was a beta.
Version 1.0 is now officially available, with several notable changes. The first is that you can downgrade even if your device is running iOS 16. This only applies to the iPhone X, which is the only model eligible for both.
Here are the rest of the changes made:
-
- Semaphorin now supports A10X and A11 devices in addition to A7-A10 devices
-
- Camera and Photos app issues are now fixed
-
- USB related issues are also fixed
-
- Support for iOS 9 even for A9 devices including iPhone 6s and iPhone SE
-
- iOS 8 support for A8 devices, including iPhone 6
-
- And much more…
With the first official release, Semaphorin is useful to all A7-A11 device owners on almost all iOS versions, and it allows you to downgrade to versions ranging from iOS 7.0.6 to 12.1 (via a Mac) without the need for SHSH blobs, which is very good news.
Obviously, since the tool only works on devices vulnerable to the checkm8 exploit, there’s no chance it will ever work with a device newer than the iPhone X.
Semaphorin Compatibility
Initially, Semaphorin officially supported the iPhone 5s, iPad mini 2, and iPad Air 1. It quickly added the iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4, iPad Air 2, iPhone 6/6 Plus, iPhone 6s/6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone SE (2016). And now the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
Let’s have the following bullet points:
-
- A7
-
- A8
-
- A9
-
- A9X
-
- A10
-
- A10X
-
- A11
How to use Semaphorin?
The developers warn that even though Semaphorin includes a version with a graphical interface, it is not recommended to use it. It is better to use the command line version (CLI), that is, to go through the Terminal. We made a complete tutorial last time.
