In beta 2 of iOS 18.2, an update that we should have publicly in December of this year, a new function has been added so that any user who owns an AirTag can share its location once lostso you can use your friend’s phone for this, not giving them information about the device once found, but rather it is something temporary to help you locate it or you can view it yourself from their iPhone if you don’t have yours.
The best thing about all this is that an iPhone will not be necessarysince sharing an AirTag from Apple to Apple is now possible and simple, but anyone, whether they have an Android, or even does not use a phone and has a computer, will be able to see, in real time, its location through a link, which not only helps us share, but, for example, you yourself can keep track of your Windows PC if you wish, something that was not previously possible.
Once found, we can cancel this link and everyone who had it will be left without access, so we can continue using our AirTag with complete privacy. If you do not do it manually, once it is found or 7 days have passed, it expires, so you will have to generate another one if you wish, although it is a good way so that we do not forget to remove people’s access .
The new feature to share a lost item works with AirTags and other devices that connect to the Find My network from Apple, which means that it will not only be for these, and that even an Apple Pencil or another accessory that works with this network can be shared with third parties for search.
For now it is only compatible with iOS 18.2 betaso if you want to try it you will have to wait for it to be officially released, or to install the developer beta, something that we do not recommend on your main device, since it could cause problems that would leave you without service, so we should only do it on one that we use for this type of tests.
