France is Uber’s 2nd market in Europe after the United Kingdom. As such, the areas for improvement for the number 1 VTC application seem limited. But France is full of resources and now that Uber’s presence is assured in metropolises, it is small and medium-sized towns that are in the application’s sights.

Today Uber is present in 41 cities. A figure that is only increasing, with 16 new cities affected since 2022. Over the next 12 months, around ten cities should see the American application arrive. If the list is not yet known to the general public, Laureline Serieys, general director of Uber France assures that the deployment should continue throughout the territory.

Maintain double-digit growth

With this opening to new cities, the American application hopes to continue its momentum. While globally Uber made its first profits since its founding in 2009 last year, growth is still mandatory in France to achieve balance.

Still according to Laureline Serieys, Uber experienced growth of 20% in 2024, with a logical and expected peak in use during the Paris Olympic Games this summer. In the capital, Uber has developed new services to fight against increasing competition.

In recent months, Uber has notably focused on “Uber Taxi” with more than 3,000 partner drivers. A new service that does not seem to scare the sector leader, G7. Questioned by our colleagues from Le Figaro, Yann Ricordel, general director of the service, assures that this new competition is “anecdotal”. It would not have caused G7 to lose market share.

Book in advance

The last area of improvement for Uber is its new reservation service which supports it. The application relies on this principle to ensure a customer base. For now the service is available in Paris and a few large cities, but it will soon be possible to reserve an Uber in advance in all cities where the application works.

At the same time, Uber continues its headlong rush with a transformation of its fleet. The application wants to reach 50% electric vehicles before the end of next year. A very ambitious objective, Uber is only at 16% at the moment, but which the brand wishes to meet on time.

Laureline Serieys warns, however, that the reduction in government aid for the ecological transition does not help the application in its green revolution.
