According to Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch AirTags 2 in mid-2025. The design should remain similar, but the location and range characteristics will be improved.

AirTag 2 confirmed for 2025

April 30, 2025 will mark the fourth anniversary of the first generation AirTags. According to Gurman, Apple plans to launch AirTags 2 around this date. Known under the code name B589, these new AirTags have already reached the manufacturing phase and are expected to be available between April and July 2025.

The AirTag 2 will likely retain a similar appearance to the first generation. Inside, it will be equipped with a new Ultra Wideband chip, identical to that of the iPhone 15 and 16. This will allow more precise localization and an extended range for tracking objects.

Finally, Apple has reportedly revised the internal design of the AirTag 2 to better conceal the speaker. This change aims to prevent malicious people from deactivating the device for inappropriate uses such as harassment or tracking people.

AirTags are for anyone who wants to easily track and locate personal items like keys, bags, or wallets. They are particularly useful for people who tend to lose or misplace their belongings.

Connected to the application Locate on iPhone, they allow you to find these objects thanks to precise location with features such as proximity search or sound signal. They are also useful for preventing theft with separation alerts.
