Amazon got a fairly modest start in the online car business late last year. But Jeff Bezos’ firm seems determined to triumph and has just made thunderous new announcements on this subject. Let’s take stock.
How does it work?
In detail, Amazon is joining forces with Hyundai to offer its customers the opportunity to find, order and buy trucks and SUVs from the South Korean company. This activity, already present in the United States, is now extended to 48 major American cities, including Baltimore, Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle.
This section, called Amazon Autos, will work like the rest of the platform. You will be able to choose from different models and dealers, specify your decisions in terms of finish, colors and different features.
As these are large transactions, users will also be able to obtain certain financing options and electronically sign their documents, specifies TechCrunch. Once payment has been made, all you have to do is pick up your vehicle from the dealership. Please note that Amazon Autos will also be in charge of any takeovers.
Other brands to come?
In a press release published for the occasion, Fan Jin, global head of Amazon Autos, comments:
We work with dealers and brands to rethink car buying, making it more transparent, more convenient and more user-friendly. With Amazon Autos, we’re bringing the simplicity and ease customers expect from Amazon to buying cars, one of the most important transactions, while giving dealers a new channel to connect with a broad audience.
He adds: “We are thrilled to have Hyundai as our exclusive launch partner and look forward to welcoming more brands and expanding our selection to customers as the program grows.” It’s still early for us and we value feedback from users and dealers as we continue to add new features, expand to other companies and improve the customer experience.”.
If this offer is currently limited to a single manufacturer and the American territory, we can therefore see that Amazon is leaving the door open to other collaborations in the future.
